Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Season 3 is bringing an insane amount of changes, events, and updates inspired by the 80s. The 80s Action Heroes event is dropping at 9 PM on May 19, bringing new Prestige Shop content, new weapon tuning, new weapons, and changes to Zombies and Multiplayer.
80s Action Heroes Event
80s Action Heroes has “action movie-themed customization items” while the event is active. Players can also unlock new Weapon Blueprints if they complete both sets. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will also be getting limited-time game modes and “two iconic 80s action heroes” as Operators during the event.
There will also be three new weapons. This includes the Baseball Bat melee weapon and the AMP63 machine pistol. The bat is exclusive to Black Ops Cold War this season and the AMP63 will be available in both games, coming to Black Ops first. According to Treyarch’s official update, both weapons will also have weapon unlock challenges that can be completed in Multiplayer or Zombies. Warzone is receiving the Ballistic Knife later this week.
Gamers will have new maps, new modes, new weapons, new playlists, and new tuning changes — along with bug fixes — for Multiplayer.
The first map is Standoff, a classic from Black Ops II. This iconic map is available in Moshpit of TDM, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint. Duga, one of the largest maps ever, will also debut in Multi-Team modes.
Speaking of, Multi-Team Elimination mode is a brand new game mode coming to Black Ops. Ten teams of four drop in with limited redeploys, fighting for survival while radiation zones continue to expand around them. Players will have to scavenge for weapons, armor, and other gear in a scramble to be the last team standing.
“The gameplay featured here is far more tactical with higher stakes compared to our other Multi-Team modes, and we’re excited to see what everything thinks this week,” developers said.
Then there’s Multi-Team Moshee, an 80s Action hero event that brings Die Hardpoint mode to Multiplayer “with an explosive twist.” Per usual, players have to capture Hardpoints to gain points while eliminating multiple enemies for buffs. But now players also have to deal with a timer ticking down. When it hits zero, the player explodes.
Zombies is getting some changes this week, too. This includes round-based Zombies, Outbreak, Dead Ops Arcade, and Onslaught. This season is big for Zombies.
80s Action Heroes introduces Cranked 2: No Time to Crank as a mode for “Firebase Z” and “Die Maschine,” featuring new action movie-themed twists. This comes after “great community reaction” to Cranked in Zombies. Developers were inspired to make an even “bigger and better” version.
Outbreak Main Quest will appear for the first time on May 20. Said developers: “We can’t wait to watch everyone uncover the steps for the first time, along with all the other new secrets to discover in the Ural Mountains, including the ability to go fishing for useful items. There’s also plenty of new Dark Aether story Documents, Audio Logs, Radio Transmissions, and Artifacts to add to your collection, and you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for roaming Ordas…”
New content is obviously very exciting. But no update is complete without changes to existing weapons. This update brings two new rounds of weapon tuning to Black Ops Cold War (one for all modes).
The first update is a global tuning pass for all sniper rifles, assault rifles, LMGs, and pistols. This will make each weapon stand out for its own specific strengths.
Developers have two goals in mind: Create more meaningful gameplay and to better define a sniper’s role. To achieve this, all sniper rifles are getting Custom Flinch. This moves the weapon aim while being hit. Attachments can reduce flinch. ADS Momentum is individualized for each sniper rifle, making lighter and heavier weapons feel differently from each other. Each sniper rifle will also receive specific changes to further create impactful experiences.
Assault rifles will get long-distance advantage over submachine guns thanks to improved bullet velocities. The only exception is the FFAR 1, which had its Bullet Velocity reduced in exchange for an increase to max damage. Headshot modifiers have also been standardized. Assault rifles with 5.56 ammo will have a 1.4x headshot modifier. 7.62 ammo will have a 1.25x modifier.
