It’s no surprise that Rainbow Six fans have been hard at work trying to find out more about Operation North Star as developers work on Rainbow Six Year 6 Season 2. And there are finally a few leaks that players can grasp onto.
Year 6 Season 2 is said to be one of the biggest updates Rainbow Six has ever seen — and definitely the biggest for 2021. The new season is rumored to be called Operation North Star and it will include a map rework and new operator as well as gameplay fixes and changes.
Who is the next operator in Rainbow Six Y6S2?
Not much has been revealed about the new operator. But the few things that have been shared about the operator have fans very excited about what’s to come. The new operator will be a defender since the last released operator, Flores, was an attacker. But nobody is quite sure at this time what their abilities and loadout will be.
The new operator is said to be from the Nakoda nation in Western Canada, according to Ubisoft back in February. This is the first Rainbow Six operator that will not be aligned with a country. Instead, the operator is connected to an indigenous tribe. Unfortunately, nobody knows yet what the operator will look like.
What will change about Favela map in Operation North Star?
Rainbow Six Y6S2’s map updates will be focused on Favela, a less competitive Brazilian-themed map that hasn’t really seen a lot of interest in ranked and pro players. Ubisoft will most likely rework the map’s tight chokes and destructible walls, which have created a lot of clutter and frustration.
While it’s known that Favela is the target, not much is known yet about what exactly will be done to the map. Ubisoft may choose to make it more competitively viable or the map might remain casual. But expect a full rework.
Rainbow Six Y6S2 gameplay changes
One of the biggest gameplay changes coming to Season 2 is a rework of Smoke. This British operator has become one of the most-picked in the game thanks to their ability to strengthen any composition. But a data miner warns that this may change in Season 2.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">In either Y6S1 or Y6S2 Smoke's Remote Gas Grenade will work with a new propagation system that prevents the toxic gas from traveling through walls, floors, and ceilings.</p>— Benjamin (@benjaminstrike) <a href="https://twitter.com/benjaminstrike/status/1382471430479167489?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 14, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
According to benjaminstrike, the biggest change will be to Smoke’s Remote Gas Grenade. After the update, it “will work with a new propagation system that prevents the toxic gas from traveling through walls, floors, and ceilings.”
This is a huge nerf for Smoke players. His ability was very oppressive since it couldn’t be countered very easily when it was able to spread in that manner. The change will probably reduce the amount of players who insta-pick Smoke and force teams to attempt a bit more thought out strategies.
It’s a change that the community is now looking forward to.
